Fort Pulaski sits on Cockspur Island, at the mouth of the Savannah River, oppostite to the shore of Tybee Island. Its original purpose was to defend the city of Savannah from ocean led attack. construction of the Fort began way back in 1829. The Fort has been designated a National Monument. One Point of interest out of many : Its been estimated that around 25 million bricks were used to construct the Fort, with its 11 foot thick walls.
There are many things to do at the Fort and in the surrounding park of over 5000 acres. Enjoy also many walking and bike trails and of course guided tours if desired.
Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
